According to tradition the
Tavern was built in 1776 by Joseph Barnard, one of Maine’s first mail carriers.
This has been operated as a Tavern, Guest House, Ophthalmologist Office and as
a repository of antiques throughout it’s history. It has been in the Johnson family since 1976
when Bill purchased it and saved it when it was threatened with demolition
after a fire in 1975. This is a unique
opportunity to revitalize this iconic landmark and begin a new chapter of its
history.
